Fidesz scored a record victory in the election to the European Parliament

Fidesz is the only party besides the Maltese Labour Party (PL) that won more than 50 percent of the votes in the European Parliamentary elections.

With a record voter turnout, Viktor Orbán’s ruling alliance of Fidesz-KDNP reaped a record victory, winning 52.14 percent of the votes. This means that the alliance secured 13 seats in the European Parliament.

On a European scale, only the Labour Party in Malta managed to score an even higher number with 55,9 percent, however, their direct rival, the National Party came in second with 36,2 percent. In Hungary, the second strongest party, the Democratic Coalition only received 16,2 percent of the votes. This disparity means that Fidesz-KDNP has a stronger support in Hungary than the Labour Party in Malta.

PM Orbán expressed gratitude to everyone who voted for his party.

Hungarians have given us the mandate for three things. First of all, that we stop immigration, that we protect the Europe of the nations, and we protect Christian culture in Europe. We need leaders who are proud of 2,000 years of Christian culture.”

According to Viktor Orbán, the high turnout proved that Hungary is a European nation, and that „our place is in Europe”.

For us, Hungary comes first in Brussels, too, and we will cooperate with anyone who wants to stop immigration.”

A major conclusion of the European Parliamentary elections – as mentioned before – is that Hungary has a stable government. The same cannot be said about Western European countries like France, Germany of Great Britain.

It is also worth noting that based on the elections results, Fidesz-KDNP is the only conservative party in Europe with an absolute majority. With 13 seats, the Hungarian alliance is the third strongest member of the European People’s Party. The EPP, due to its identity crisis, has lost 40 seats – it remains to be seen what course the party decides to take.
